0730/1100 hrs slight south easterly 8/14 degrees very sunny.
Species Of note......
Dipper....after the severe pollution of April 2017 this species was one of the most effected as their staple diet is sub surface invertebrates, they have bred every year since but in reduced numbers and lots of failed broods. This is the first year since the incident that there are 5 nest sites on this stretch it will be interesting over the next few weeks to see how successful they are, the latest kick testing for invertebrates have shown a remarkable recovery over the last three years.
Grey Wagtail.....two pair.
Sand Martin....17 nest holes are in use in Strongstry with lots of activity around the site.
Swallow......around 10 over the river.
House Martin.....4 over.
Goosander....Female at nest site, Pair still on the river, this is the latest I have seen a Male here.
Grey Heron.....juvenile on the river.
Moorhen.....two nesting pair on lodges.
Mallard.....Several ducklings around.
Buzzard....one over Lumb.
Willow Warblers.....Good Numbers in song and nesting, the Ringed bird of this species was seen with nesting material but has disappeared, it was nesting near a footpath which has much more usage during the lockdown, there are a couple of pairs higher up the slope so maybe we can relocate.
Blackcap.....again better numbers than previous years lots in song.
Chiffchaff.....only one seen.
Whitethroat....two singing males in Chatterton wood, have recorded them here before but not for sometime.
Garden Warbler....there are now a pair in Strongstry wood no more than 100 yards from previous nest site.
Treecreeper.....two pair at nest sites.
Great Spotted Woodpecker......Several calling and carrying food.
Jay.....two chasing through the canopy.
Regards Brian.
