I was hoping for a nice evening walk to the 3 reservoirs, but it was like Blackpool prom, so wildlife was at a premium and I only went to the far end of Ogden.

The highlights were: -

Holden Wood

• 4 lapwing in the meadows, no longer displaying
• 1 curlew heard
• 1 cuckoo (at 9pm on my return journey)
• 2 oystercatcher
• 1 grey heron
• 1 reed bunting
• 2 little ring plover
• Good numbers of swallows, swifts and sand martins

Ogden

• 2 stonechat
• 2 grasshopper warblers reeling only a few yards apart
• 1 curlew heard
• 2 kestrel
• 1 grey heron flying into woods by the fisherman's hut
