Hi Dave

I was up at Edge Cote with John and Pete (socially distanced!) this morning, probably just missed you! We came up from the Seat Naze side and can add the following to your sightings

  • cormorant - 1 flew up the Whitewell valley
  • snipe - we had at least 60
  • jack snipe - we had 1 in the corner of the field with the pond. Did you have yours in the same area?
  • kestrel - 1
  • black-headed gull - c20 Seat Naze
  • common gull - c20 around Seat Naze
  • lesser black-backed gull - 4 flying down the Whitewell valley
  • meadow pipit - 2 at Seat Naze & 7 at Edge Cote
  • redwing - flocks of 13, 24, 6 & 3 in the Seat Naze are, so probably different birds to yours
  • fieldfare - 1 with redwings at seat Naze & 31 over Marl Pits
  • starling - c60 over Edge Cote
  • goldcrest - c6 calling at Edge Cote
  • crossbill - 1 flew over Edge Cote and possibly a different bird was heard calling in the conifers at Edge Cote
  • reed bunting - 1 at Seat Naze

Hi Kevin,
Looks like you just got there before me as all of the snipe I saw were in the first, smaller, field approaching from the plantation end with the Jack in the left corner. I walked the second , bigger, field towards Seat Naze and didn't put anything up and wondered why!
The biggest group I put up was 4 so nothing like the number in your flock.
Cheers,
David.
