  • grey heron - 1 at Rawtenstall Tesco, 1 at Holmes Terrace Lodge, 2 in fields off Manchester Rd, Ewood Bridge & 2 at EBSW
  • cormorant - 1 flew onto the lodge near Zachariah's Scar & 2 flew down the Irwell Valley
  • Canada goose - 1pr at EBSW
  • mallard - 41 at Rawtenstall Tesco & 29 at EBSW
  • goosander - 2 redheads at Groundwork
  • moorhen - 2 in the field at Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • woodcock - 1 at Warth & 1 at Townsendfold
  • sparrowhawk - 1 at Warth & 1 at Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • herring gull - c120 heading towards Rawtenstall and then up the Limy valley in flocks of up to 12 birds. 2 of these were in the grounds at EBSW for a short while
  • common gull - c8 over Rawtenstall
  • black-headed gull - c40 at Rawtenstall & c100 at EBSW
  • pied wagtail - only c5 at EBSW
  • stock dove - min 2 at Warth & 1 in fields off Manchester Road
  • redwing - 2 at Holmes Terrace
  • nuthatch - 2 at Warth
  • dipper - 1 singing near Hill End Land at Cloughfold & 1 at Fallbarn
  • starling - 35 on pylon at Groundwork
  • raven - 1 over Warth & 1 over Dam Top
  • carrion crow - c100 at EBSW
  • jackdaw - c400 at EBSW
  • great tit - c12 at Warth
  • blue tit - c6 at Warth
  • long-tailed tit - flock of 7 at Warth & flock at Holmes Terrace Lodge, both alerted me to the presence of sparrowhawks
  • bullfinch - 3 at Warth
  • chaffinch - just a single at Warth (does anybody else think there are fewer around?)

Hi Kevin,

The Chaffinch population on my patch seems pretty stable, 20+ at the feeding station most days and always some along the river, great Kestrel picture, but not mentioned on your list ?.

Hi Brian

The kestrel was near the bypass bridge at Townsendfold and was the only 1 seen along the route
