My annual visit around Barnsley mainly to see the Nightjars on the moors above Langsett with the following noted:

Langsett.

Nightjar, at least 3 individual birds. Churring started at 21:45 with the first bird flying at 21:55. 3 birds chasing around at 22:15

Long Eared Owl, adult hunting the moor plus 2 calling young,

Woodcock, just a single bird over this year,

Snipe, 1 on a fence post showed well,

Cuckoo, 2 on the moor,

Stonechat, family party in the heather,

Red Grouse, c20 plus a family of c8 chicks.

 

Edderthorpe Flash.

Avocet, c12 on the flash,

Little Ringed Plover, 3,

Redshank, 2,

Green Woodpecker, 1,

Yellowhammer, singing bird.

We went last night and saw:- 4 Nightjars, 2 Kestrels, 1 Merlin, 2 Stonechat, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, LE Owl had been seen. Cracking spot, don't forget the Deet!
