  • whooper swan - flock of c16 birds seen to south of Whitworth Quarry were probably whoopers.
  • pink-footed goose - birds heard calling over Lee Quarry area heading east. Sadly couldn't see them, so no idea of numbers
  • buzzard - 3
  • sparrowhawk - male over Deansgreave Road, New Line
  • kestrel - 1
  • snipe - 6
  • herring gull - 4 over
  • lesser black-backed gull - 1 over
  • little owl - 5 in 4 different areas of Lee Quarry
  • skylark - 4 singles
  • great spotted woodpecker - 1 that flew into the main quarry area in Lee Quarry was a bit of a surprise
  • pied wagtail - 1 at each quarry
  • meadow pipit - 76 in singles to a flock of 24 in Whitworth Quarry & a flock of c40 in Lee Quarry
  • wheatear - 1 in Lee & 1 in Whitworth Quarry
  • fieldfare - flocks of 13, 120, 60, 24, 60 & 80 either south or east through Whitworth Quarry area
  • chaffinch - bird in full song on Deansgreave Road, New Line. Probably the first time I've heard 1 sing in in October
  • linnet - flock of 13 in Whitworth Quarry
  • redpoll - 1 heard on Deansgreave Road
  • siskin - 2 heard over Whitworth Quarry
  • bullfinch - female on Deansgreave Road
  • reed bunting - calling bird on the moor near Whitworth Quarry
