saw a short eared owl hunting in late afternoon just inside the blackburn with darwen border with hyndburn -  where one turns off grane road to edge worth.

5p on wards - holden wood - 2 great crested grebes in summer plumage and displaying to each other,  saw 2 moorhens and heard a 3rd, 10 cormorants in total at roost, 2 gulls - black headed or common - not sure,  5 mallards,   and 1 possible little grebe.  also kestrels, wood pgeons, blackbirds

3 unidentified warblers or pipits flew across one side of the reservoir to the other - were not meadow pipits.
