I took a look at the Camp for the first time in about 10 years. I was checking out the ponds ready for the dragonfly survey but I had a couple of interesting birds as well. There was a flock of about 50 Fieldfare in trees near the Range House, a Curlew singing on territory just up the slope from there, a Tawny Owl was calling during daylight - quite strange and a Green Woodpecker called near Simon's Lodge. The oddest though, was a Sparrowhawk (male from it's size though I didn't het a clear look) lugging a Jay to pluck it. I disturbed it and it could barely keep airborne as it carried it into some scrub. When disturbed again it dropped the Jay which seemed to have been dead some time (not warm) so maybe the Sparrowhawk had found it already dead?
