i notice there been a coule of buzzard sightings over the last week in rossendale. thats good news. i have never seen buzzards here - i saw 2 over burnely in september last year. they are expanding their range and acordign to the RSPB they are britains commonest bird of prey. i saw 2 buzzards today in the dunsop valley. as i watched them i thought to myself i take these birds for granted. they are quite big and noticeable birds and have a very slow eagle like flight.
i remember a news story int he rossendale free press over 2 years ago, when a pair of buzzards were seen regularly in east rossendale - bacup, waterfoot side during spring. they thought they may nest but the lack of trees in rossendale and the smaller rabbit population may not be in favour of nesting buzzards. i hope they do nest. in fact would love to see how fast they move when trying to catch its prey. somehow i cant believe they would move so fast but i am sure they would!
