Hi Kevin, I live in Whitworth and regularly walk around Cowm Reservoir and as yet have never seen any Redpoll in the area,is there a special area I should concentrate my efforts on? Very interested in the Ring Ouzel you saw in Cragg Quarry can you tell me the exact area in which you saw the bird and is Cragg Quarry the one to the south of Stacksteads? Many Thanks, David Ousey.
The ring ouzel was on the east end of Cragg Quarry, almost directly above Cragg High Level Tank. The redpoll were seen originally in the area near what I think is called Cowclough, but were later seen flying across the top end of the res. I don't visit Cowm very often myself but when I have done so previously, I have had redpoll in the area near the car park. Hope this helps. cheers Kevin
Thanks for that Kevin, must keep my eyes peeled for the Redpoll at Cowm,do the Ring Ouzels breed in Cragg Quarry or do you think the birds you saw were just passage birds,I only ask as I was thinking of having a walk over the quarry on Friday Many Thanks, David Ousey.
