Not in Rossendale, but I saw my first Large Red Damselflies of the year today near to home in N Bolton.  They were recently emerged (called teneral) and were less strongly coloured than when mature.

Chances are they'll be emerging from a pond near you soon.  The immatures move away from the water for a few days, returning when they are ready for breeding, so you'll probably see them in the surrounding vegetation, or flying low to the ground.

Next one is likely to be Azure Damselfly - they have already been seen at Mere Sands Wood, but will be later here being higher and cooler.
