Bluebell Variant ? Top O'th' Slate 120507
Permalink

Whilst at Top O'th Slate I have come across the flower below and wondering if its a variant of the Bluebell, because I cant say as I have ever seen lilac bluebells before and there seems to be no mention in my fieldguides of such variants...... obviously any information would be really welcomed.

Hi Bryan,There is a spanish variant bluebell found in Ireland[quite insipid colour] that was introduced, never heard of it in England,in strongstry woods there are plenty of bluebells with a few white ones, just wondered if yours were hybrid of blue and white ???

Hi Brian, Many thanks for your input on this, yes I have just checked out some pages and it does look likely that the specimen at Slate could well be a Spanish variant/hybrid.  I have posted here a site which gives a picture of the two hybrids both pink (as they call it) and white.
