Tuesday September 4th 2007 - Haslingden Laund/Top O'th' Slate

Wind: Variable 2-3mph
All movement South unless stated otherwise.
Still very little on the move around here with things about the norm for the time of year, with trickles of Meadow Pipits, and a couple of Swallow parties, and very light Chaffinch.  Would expect at least another week for things to get going....

Linnet: 1 plus a blogging party of approx 30
Chaffinch: 7 (3 parties)
Grey Wagtail: 1
Swallow: 28 (one party of 22 which blogged for a while)
House Martin: 5
LBBG: 11 (1NW)
Willow Warbler: Resting in Top Oth Slate
Curlew: audible only.
Bryan.

Hi Ian, Yes I really dont know who could ever have thought of such a word or thing!! those crazy modern birders, but yet it's suprising what madness can catch on... just imagine "blogging" , I suppose when I first heard or saw it, I just wanted to cry.. it being in anquish, sadness or joy (not sure really), but there again, I have got sort of used to it, like I have to get used to a lot of silly things these days.... and has time goes on some of them become even more sillier!!

As far as I understand Ian, blogging is simply "hanging about" in no panic state. Not so sure about anything!! and being a nuisance, getting in the way of stuff that really is on the move and knows its direction. And at this time of the year thats how much of the vismig is, especially with Meadow Pipits and Linnets who just hang about in very large parties (sometimes up to 100 plus in the case of Pipits) and on most days will clear and continue South at some point of the day (but not always) and then build up again with other birds for a large party the following day.  But when the peak moves start which should be about the 20th September week..ish then there will be no blogging, just straight determined flight South or West.

Cheers,
Bryan.
