Tuesday 11th December 2007 - Haslingden Laund
0700 - 0915hrs
Wind: Variable 2 mph
Movement: South unless stated otherwise.

Meadow Pipit: 134 (best party 14) mainly pairs (plus a 30+ blogging party)
Linnet: 19 (18W)
Chaffinch: 16 (9 pairs)
Pied Wagtail: 5
Grey Wagtail: 1
Swallow: 50 (12,4,22,7,5)
Greenfinch: 1W
Siskin: 3 (2,1 plus lots missed)
Starling: 7
Mistle Thrush: 1
Goldfinch: 43 (one party 40)
LBBG: 4

Swallows should peak here in the next 3 days.  This year some of the
Swallows had a bad start around here with some deserting nest completely
with behaviour of initially throwing eggs out of nest and then on the next
clutch throwing out very early young and then deserting the nest and nest
area completely.  I can only presume this behaviour lends itself to a
shortage of food.  This non-descript Summer has probably been devastating to
many birds if we were to know the full consequences.  Swifts around here
also faired badly this year...

Cheers,
Bryan.
