Sunday October 21st 2007 - Haslingden Grane
0730-1030hrs
Wind: SE 3mph
Movement: West unless specified different
After Thursday and Friday it was relitively quiet today.  I was expecting good numbers of Starlings today, because of the fantastic movements on the Continent yesterday and also with the many reported by Keith in Sheffield yesterday, but they just did not come. A superb sight of a pair of Goshawk moving through, taking their time and occasionally sort of dive bombing one another. Again any LBBG passage west was a dark immature bird - no adults.
Fieldfare: 79 (best party 40)
Redwing: 133 (11 parties, best parties 60,14,12)
Song Thrush: 2
Blackbird: 2 (1 with party of Redwing)
Starling: 188 (best parties 15,40,20,16,16)
Chaffinch: 99 (best parties: 5,10,5)
Siskin: 53 (15NE best parties: 10,12,5)
Redpoll: 14 (3NE)
Goldfinch: 14 (one party 7)
Brambling: 2
Greenfinch: 4 (1E)
Reed Bunting: 2
Meadow Pipit: 4
Pied Wagtail: 6 (2 NE)
Green Woodpecker: 1 yaffling
Jackdaw: 44 (7 parties, best parties: 8,14)
Carrion Crow: 5
Woodpigeon: 29 (17E)
LBBG: 1 (again immature)
Heron: 1W (possibly local)
Cormorant: 1 - messing about and beginning to think now its a local.
Goshawk: 2 birds and probably a pair, because one was smaller and definately on the move SW.
Cheers,
Bryan.

PS: Bill, no Crossbill heard again today.
