Thursday 27th March 2008 - Haslingden Laund
0945hrs - 1045hrs
Wind: SW 10mph
all North
Rain at first then fined up at 1000hrs.

Probably missed a thousand or two, when I got there it was obvious some sort of main push had been taking place, the Pipits where coming through in ten's parties, with several parties at 20s and one at 30s, and to get these amounts so late in the morning (0945-1045hrs) with 200 within the first 20 mins of me arriving tells me something big push had been going on. For Spring counts thats quite exceptional! Couldnt stop any later.....

Meadow Pipit: 355
Skylark: 5
Chaffinch: 12 (one party 10)
Pied Wagtail: 1
Goldfinch: 2
Greenfinch: 1

Also I have been looking out for Kittiwakes (without luck!!), which have been crossing over Lancashire this last week or so. Reports have come in from Heaton Park and the Ribble Valley of several sightings.  On the top of Laund we usually only get the big gulls eg: LBBG or Herring Gulls (in 99% of gull sightings) which come through on the East Side, the BHG's or smaller gulls always seem to prefer to go through using the Accrington valley bottom or the Grane Valleys to the West side........dont know the reason for this but it's always the case in 99%
