E.B.S.W. and circular walk. 31/3/08 - 15:15hrs

1 Swallow hawking over beds
1 Willow Warbler in song along riverside at rear of beds
1 Chiffchaff in song in same area as above

58 L.B.B.Gull moving S. in 1.5hrs.
Pr Long Tailed Tits collecting cobwebs from around street light
Pr G.S. Woodpecker
1 Jay
1 Goldcrest in song
1 Dipper on river
1m + 2f Goosander flew up river 
7 Rook in trees at Ravenshore - 2 nests only
River is the colour of Iron Brew due to flooding of catch pits at Bacup.

Of interest to anybody who doesn't know - the footpath along the river between Townsendfold and Ewood Bridge is closed due to severe erosion of the banking.  K.L. was turned back yesterday by the countryside rangers.

Swallow and Willow Warbler both quite early records.
I read about the discoloured Irwell on the BBC NW News site. Was there any sign of adverse effects on invertebrates / small fish?
