Hello, I saw a family of 5 Crossbills at Bacup Golf Course 13th August 08 While walking the dog,Excellent Views. They flew over me and landed on a nearby tree, then landed on the path ahead of me. I take it they've probably bred in the area or close by? Another case of should of brought me video camera.
Hi Pablo Welcome to the forum. Great spot as they are not a common bird within the area. Strange really as a lady I spoke to very matter of fact told me that she gets them feeding in a fir/conifer type tree in her garden at certain times of the year. She lives just below the fire station near Britannia so maybe they find what they are looking for up there.
PS. If you are anything like my wife and I then it would be the case that if you had the camera with you you would not have seen them!

Hi Ste, Yeah ive noticed that tends to happen. Last May at Clough Bottom Reservoir i had a Cuckoo land on a wall in front of me while i was having a rest in the sun. It stayed there for about 5 minutes sun bathing. I saw it a few times while walking about. Just before i left,i sat on a grass bank, looking down on the stream, when it flew along the stream and landed close by,then got chased by a Kestrel above me. The Kestrel then hovered above me. Went back the next day with the Camera. No Cuckoo all day.
