Tuesday October 13th 2009, Hutton Roof, Cumbria.
0730hrs - 1200hrs.
Wind: light variable.
Movement: Redwing generally North or North East
Chaffinch, Mainly West, East and some South East
all others Movement South unless stated.

It was that good I stayed up at Hutton for the morning and had 3041 Redwing.  Most of them came in from the SE has I saw them, as though they would perhaps have come across from between Ingleborough (at the South) and Kirkby Lonsdale (at the North).  It was not a forceful migration movement, it was a sort of ambling along in all directions, at first turning and going in all directions out, and it was a sort of cant make your mind up, in fact it was quite noticeable that odd birds with the parties (even the larger parties) where regularly "sallying" with one another during flight as they went along not unlike the meadow pipit.. the majority say 80% settled to go out North or North East.  Very Interesting and striking was the  fact I noticed several parties come in from the SE (Ingleborough directions) to the West and then when they got to the coast at say Pine Lakes Holiday resort area, they would then go in a to and fro (eg: shall I go to Milnthorpe or Carnforth!!) and then as though undecided would return 10 minutes later inland but this time altering their return course and going out in the North East direction, this was witnessed several times and I had to be very careful counting, so as not to duplicate.  The better numbered parties eg: (150's) came in after about 11am, and by then also I had the odd Fieldfare party or odd birds amongst the Redwing parties.
