14:15 hrs

After last nights apparent dispersal of Swallows and Martins before dusk I wasn't expecting much today.  But numbers were even higher with c400 present. Swallows definatley outnumber martins at about 4-1 with very few sand martins present.
Swift numbers were on the low side with c20 seen.
Are these birds new arrivals this morning, or are they last nights birds returning to feed up having roosted somewhere nearby?

Bob 'n' Archie.

Hi Bob,
Just some further information to help you try and figure out this conundrum in that I popped on this morning around 09:45 and the following were present:

Swift, c40 (many higher up rather than over the beds!)
Swallow, c150
House Martin, c80
Sand Martin, Zero.

Cheers,
David.

Hi Bob/ Dave/ Pete

I was down at EBSW just before Bob 'n' Archie and had 150+ swift, 500+ swallow and 200+ house martin.  There were only 2 pied wagtails on the beds and only 4 willow warblers and 2 blackcaps on the circuit.  A bullfinch was calling near the gates and a kingfisher was on the Ogden near the soap works.  On the way down there was a whitethroat singing at K Steels.

cheers Kevin
