A kingfisher perched in the winter sun actually looked a lot bigger that normally, at first I was not sure it wasn't a piece of blue plastic but it flew off after a few minutes. Other highlights were a couple of dippers, heron and lots of mallard.

Hi Dog nobbler,

I am keeping records of Kingfishers between Irwell vale and Stubbins to see if i can establish a pattern of movement through winter into spring. I would appreciate if you could tell me where it was perched and if possible if it was a male or female and the time of sighting.

Many thanks Brian

I have no idea what sex it was but I was stood on the bridge at the confluence of the Ogden and Irwell and the kingfisher was on a new fence upstream on the right hand bank about 80 yds away.
I will let you know of any other sightings.

Thank you for the info, in my short time in Strongstry i have not had two Kingfishers stay here on a regular basis until now, i am hoping these are offspring of two pairs that bred sucessfully up and down stream of here in the summer and may be setting up a territory. The two i see regulary are a male and female but there is an other male turns up now and then and i have seen all three together.
