Blue tit  plenty nesting,  5 pair in boxes

Great tit     many nesting,   3 pair in boxes

Coal tit  few pairs, numbers down on last year

L t tit       several pairs nesting

Bullfinch  commonest finch hear

Chaffinch   couple of pair nesting

Goldfinch   several pair

Greenfinch  uncommon nesting hear

Robin          common,  one pair in nest box

Dunnock     usual numbers

House sparrow   two small groups, 5/6 pair

Nuthatch   i estimate 6/7 pair in area  

Treecreeper  i think only 2/3 pair one nest site observed

Wren     several nest sites, they seem to have recovered numbers

Willow warbler   probably 8 pair

Chiffchaff         one definate nest site

Wood warbler    none for 5 days, searched in vain this weekend

Whitethroat    one pair in Irwell vale

Goldcrest     one pair in Chatterton, maybe more

Garden warbler   seen in Strongstry by Rob Archer of Ramsbottom

Blackbird    many with young

Mistle thrush   a couple of pair

Song thrush    one nest in back garden with 4 well grown chicks, others around

Great spotted woodpecker   usual 3/4 pair

Green woodpecker    one pair

Jay     numbers stable

Jackdaw    nesting in next door chimney again

Crow    several feeding in fields

Rook     as above

Magpie     maybe two pair

Wood pigeon   numbers increasing, many nests in Buckden woods

Collard dove     one pair nesting here, more in Irwell vale

Lapwing         two pair with young on Buckden farmland, second year in same field

Mallard      lots of ducklings on river now

Canada goose    one pair with 3 young

Dipper         two pair with young

Kingfsher    one flying upstream in Irwell vale

Grey wagtail    one pair with young

Goosander       five young on river this weekend

Swallows       several over

Sand martin     three hawking on river today

Tawny owl       two pair, no young seen yet

Buzzard          one over two or three times

Pheasant       few pairs

Grey herons are missing from the river, have been watching for Spotted flycatcher but none yet found.
