Dunnockshaw bats

Hi,

Large variations in the numbers of bats (15 recordings in one night & 200 the next), frequenting / feeding along the lane to Riley`s farm. Variations probably due to strong winds forcing the insects to take cover in the lee of trees. The bats exploit these conditions just like the hirundines do a few hours later.

Lots of social calls (x2 per second) which at this time of year are usually associated with intra specific competition for scarce prey.

Initial i.d. of species inc. common pips. also probably some Long-eared sp. & some myotis sp. To be verified.

Cheers

Andy
