Rawtenstall to EBSW

little grebe - 3 juvs on Holmes Terrace Lodge

Canada goose - circa 16 flying down the valley at Rawtenstall

mallard - 78 at Rawtenstall, 24 at Holmes Terrace Lodge and 14 on the river at EBSW

goosander - 3 redheads at Fallbarn and 3 over EBSW

sparrowhawk - 5 sightings between Rawtenstall and EBSW probably 2 or 3 different birds

peregrine - 1 seen over Horncliffe.  Then probably the same bird seen over Ewood Bridge

kestrel - 1 at Holmes Terrace Lodge

black headed gull - circa 150 at EBSW

lesser black backed gull - circa 200 over EBSW in several flocks

grey wagtail - 1 at The Holme

pied wagtail - only 6 at EBSW (last week there were at least 50)

dipper - 2 at Rawtenstall & 1 near EBSW

redwing - 2 at EBSW

fieldfare - 17 over EBSW

long tailed tit - flocksof 10 and 2 at Groundwork & 3 parties round EBSW

goldcrest - 2 at EBSW

jay - 8 sightings of single birds over EBSW

goldfinch - charms of 9 & 5 at EBSW

Grane

cormorant - 3 on Holden Wood

grey heron - 2 on Holden Wood & 1 at Ogden

Canada goose - 61 at Holden Wood

mallard - 28 on Holden wood & 23 on Calf Hey

teal - probably at least 10 on Calf Hey

goosander - 1 redhead at Holden Wood

kestrel - 1 at Holden wood, 1 at Ogden and 1 at Hutch Bank

lapwing - 14 flew off towards Haslingden at 15:00 hrs leaving 5 at the res. At 15:10 24 flew in from the direction of Haslingden. At 15:30 around 200 flew in, but I didn't see from where.  60 of these flew off to the west in 2 parties A subsequent count of the birds that were left gave a total of at least 235 birds (this includes the 60 that had just left)

black headed gull - 79 at Holden wood and 18 at Calf Hey

tawny owl - 1 calling at Calf Hey at 16:30hrs

stock dove - 1 across the road from Holden Wood

great spotted woodpecker - 1 male at the feeders at Calf Hey

pied wagtail - 1 at Holden wood

grey wagtail - 1 at Ogden

meadow pipit - 3 at Holden wood & 2 at Ogden

stonechat - 1 female at Ogden

redwing - 3 at Holden Wood

fieldfare - 4 over Troy Quarry

starling - 25 at Holden Wood & 42 flying west at Calf Hey

goldcrest - 1 seen others heard at Calf Hey

nuthatch - at least 2 at Calf Hey feeders

coal tit - minimum of 10 at Calf Hey feeders

raven - 1 near Holden Wood

jay - 1 near Calf Hey

siskin - 6 at Calf Hey

reed bunting - 1 at Holden wood & 1 at Ogden

i went to holden wood about 4.10pm-5.10pm

there were over 80 lapwings and 62 canada geese present.....with a lot of black-headed gulls with at least 10 plus common gulls......some one parked in the car park and walked to other side and fired a shot.....pt the geese, palwins, gulls and starlings in the air

over 80 lapwings.......they did settle back down again but some tiem after they flew off towards hutchbank and then ine the direction of broadway......they are prob the roof tops roosting birds......23 of the lapwings settled back on to the farm

1 cormorant and the roost tree has white patches all over it, a jay flew from ogden way, 28 mallard, over 20 plus starling

a few pied wagtails, 5 mipits - numbers down, 1 grey heron,

log tailed tit flock, a couple of linnets, small goldfinch flock, some robis singing, 2 wrens,
4 herring gulls incl juveniles, another flock of 12 herring gulls - both flocks heading north - , a lone lbbg heading north

also a flock of 20 redwings over memorial gardens heading towards tor at about 12.15pm

also a flock of about 12 HG's over my house soaring .....at about 3pm heading north-ish?
