Thanks for the info, Dionne. Was it on the Irwell or Whitewell?

Hi Jim!! I saw the kingfisher at the bridge on Burnley road east across the road from Jo Jo's takeaway. I am relatively new to the area so I am unsure what that river is called. I couldn't believe it at first and then I saw it again on a separate occasion which confirmed it for me. I saw it in the morning between 9.00am and 9.30am.

Great spot Dee Dee I've lived in The Glen for 25 years and walked The Glen to Waterfoot, the Irwell, almost daily sometimes three or four times never seen a Kingfisher plenty of Dippers, Herons and Grey Wagtails but no kingfisher, well done.

Hi Dionne, I've found Jo Jo's on Google maps and the river there is the Whitewell.  It joins the Irwell a little further along. As Anthony says, you may see Dippers and Grey Wagtails as well.

Aww brilliant!! I will have to keep my eye out for them too. Thankyou so much for your interest and information with this. I must say wildlife is just so amazing and spontaneous it gives you a real buzz when you see something wether it be a bird or another type of animal.

Thankyou Anthony for your kind reply. I am really happy to learn the name of that river now because quite often Ive wondered where it leads too and why its there. Lol. Thanks again. The next time I'm watching I will look out for other birds too.

If you want something a bit bigger and different there's quite a few mink about as well.

Aww nice one mink!! I would love to see mink. I didnt think they would be around here, lol. For sum reason I thought they could be seen in more in Scotland. Actually, have you seen any badgers? I have only seen them on telly, but I am told they are massive in true life.

Dee Dee loads of badger around Waterfoot, the photo on my messages is taken in my back garden about three quarters of a mile from your Kingfisher sighting. Not so much at this time of year but in Spring and Summer I have had as many as twelve (adults and young) coming for a peanut supper all at the same time.
