green woodpecker - yaffling birds heard at hightown near Whitewell Bottom and EBSW
kingfisher - 1 at the Holme, Townsendfold
goldcrest - 1 singing at Edge Cote and 1 pair at Marl Pits
dipper - pair with male singing at Mill End Waterfoot
long tailed tit - several pairs and small groups seen including 4 birds at Snig Hole Helmshore which included 2 birds fighting in a tree. They then fell to the ground and continued to fight before parting and quarrelling again as they moved through the trees. Never seen long tailed tits fight before.
carrion crow - thought I'd heard a great spotted woodpecker drumming on a dead branch at Marl Pits but it turned out to be a carrion crow repeatedly making one of the strangest calls I've ever heard
redpoll - 8 in the garden of Balladen Clough House near Waingate Village Rawtenstall.
