Huge movement of over 200 large gulls moving south today between 11-12.15 of which 4 were definitely GBBG's, the vast majority were Herring and a few LBBG...
Mistle Thrush singing in Memorial Gardens but so far only one bird seen. Blackbirds appear quiet. Feral Pigeons have nearly fledged young. Had 2 Woodpigeon a couple of weeks ago visiting my feeding station.
Today the Gulls were really making a commotion in the air. The warmer weather must be getting to them. A few drinks, cast off them t shirts and a scrap in the air. It feels almost coastal at times with all that gull calling but I think i am one of the few people who have ever noticed the LBBG flying south in the morning and north in the evening in spring and summer. They are one of the defining signs of spring and summer for me. 1000 plus over head today with quite a few Herring Gull in there - many of those were juveniles.
I noticed Gulls heading north 4pm and onwards of which quite a few were HG's also but then a line were heading south, About 30 plus HG's also over GRane about 8pm heading prob to Fishmoor.
A Swallow over memorial gardens today about 4.30pm heading south!

About 6 House Martins over haslingden on Monday and Tuesday around 11.30am. Must be local birds. They are the first I have seen here this year although Sunday I was out of the area.
Swift visiting a nest site on Manchester Road in Haslingden this week. It was visiting this site in late August 2011.
Starling juvenile seen visiting food left on the wall at my house on Tuesday 21 may - first young Starling seen in Rossendale by me. Up to 5 present at one point - 1 juvenile and 4 adults. The juvenile begged for food quite a lot.
4 Male House Sparrows and a female visited my little feeding station last week. They were carrying food away :)
A Magpie visited my feeding station twice this week. it joins feral Pigeon, Starling, House Sparrow, Blackbird, Jackdaw, Woodpigeon, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, Carrion Crow. The Magpie takes the list up to double figures!
A Robin seen collecting food in the Memorial Gardens and carrying it to a bush today.
Looks like Starlings on second broods around Haslingden - nesting activity seen around Cedar Avenue area, the flats between Upper Deardengate and Bury Road over the last 2 weeks.
Over 100 LBBG's stopping around Brookside Nurseries where the cattle feed. Some would depart and more would arrive so true numbers unknown. Within them at least 2 Herring Gulls. 1-2 adult Herring Gulls noted in the flocks that fly above.
Swift numbers dropped 3 weeks ago. There were 2 nests around my new address and 2 nests around my old address. Activity has been quiet around both -- either they have fledged or unsuccessful .
House Martins - at least 2 nests with chicks peeping out at my new address and at least 2 nests around my old address. Activity is quiet around the new address so they must have fledged. At the old address I noticed 5-6 House Martins visiting one of the nests. They must have recently fledged from there?
LBB Gull passage dropped about 3-4 weeks ago but recently has picked up. Begging juveniles have been heard above. Slight increase in number of Herring Gulls over.
