In case anyone is interested there is a very good free software product available that can be used to store bird records and those of other biological groups very simply and can export the data in various formats including that suitable for uploading to BTO BirdTrack.

The software is available from this website: http://www.gilbert21.org.uk/ as can any prerequisites neded (v4 of Microsoft .NET framework).  It is easy to use and very flexible and, as I say, free.
