08:40hrs

1 Willow warbler in song nr the outflow

1 Chiffchaff in song around circuit + 1 silent bird along the river.

1 Dipper under bridge at Irwell Vale

Pr Goosander on river

1 Moorhen on river

c15 Swallow feeding over coke beds with 1 House martin and c2 Sand martin. 17 swallows at 12:45 hrs but no martins.

c6 Pied Wagtail

30+ B.H.Gull feeding

10/11 Rook nests behind the soap works at Irwell Vale - probably the only rookery that is increasing.

Lots of L.B.B. Gull passage S. all morning.

Hi Bob

I was down there later and can add the following

  • swallows increased to 40+ birds @ 3pm feeding low over the beds in the rain
  • 1 kingfisher
  • 30+ pied wagtail on beds
  • another chiffchaff at K Steels
  • pr of goldcrest across the river from the works
  • bullfinch heard across the river
