Like an early start but a mattress attached to my back held up proceedings.

Arrived and wandered around the triangle where plenty of Common Whitethroat and one lesser Whitethroat gave good views with the odd Sedge thrown in. On to the canal scrape where I was glad Mandy pulled me into as Common Sandpiper and a reasonable view of a Yellow Wagtail (flavissima) was enjoyed. A Hare at the back of the scrape was a nice bonus.

Most of the day good numbers of Swallow passed through with House Martin and Sand Martins in the mix. I love Red Rumped Swallow....calm down.....and as I stopped off to watch migration at the sea hide I was hopeful as Andy, a volunteer was playing a calling RRS sadly I stayed an hour or so but no joy. Swallows increased with many Greenfinch, Linnet and Meadow Pipit being seen. Out to sea and a few Little Terns were fishing matched by a few Sandwich Terns.

On the Humber side thousands of Grey Plover in fine dress were loitering with Brent Geese (no brant for me) Oystercatcher, Turnstones, Dunlin and Curlew.

Sadly the road to the point is now washed away and I am unsure of the possibility of it's reinstatement which is quite a loss on several counts mostly for those that live on the point to man the lifeboat station.

Could not match Dave Ouseys' Rock Trush so a Late Fieldfare had to suffice.

I don't normally get to Spurn in the Spring but it was quite nice to visit and listen to birdsong.

I did read the Spurn website but realised it does not seem that much good in spring. I wanted to make a spring visit but appeared to be nothing special. Will make 2 autumn trips instead.
