Hi Dave

I was up at Grane today and can add the following

  • grey heron - 1 on Ogden and 1 on Holden Wood
  • pink footed goose - skein of 86 flew west at 11:05hrs.  May have been the same as yours as the skein did split slightly.  The count is from a photo.
  • Canada goose - 60 at Holden Wood
  • mallard - 21 on Calf Hey
  • teal - 4 birds on Holden Wood, 6 on ogden and 14 on Calf Hey
  • lapwing - c60 on Ogden
  • common gull - 3 on Holden wood and flock of 19 flying west
  • herring gull - flock of 4 west
  • great black backed gull - 1 on Ogden
  • grey wagtail - 2 at Calf Hey
  • redwing - flock of c200 birds moving east over Jamestone Quarry (flocks of 50 + 5 in waterfoot this morning as well)
  • nuthatch - 1 at Calf Hey
  • siskin - 3 over Holden Wood and 1 calling from the plantation half way along the side of Ogden
  • reed bunting - 3 at Holden Wood and 7 at Calf Hey

G.C.Grebe, 2 on Calf Hey,

Cormorant, 8 on Ogden, mainly drying off at top end and 1 in trees at Holden Wood,

Pink Footed Goose, a skein of 64 flew west,

Mallard, c30 on Holden Wood,

Teal, pair on Holden Wood, 2 pair on Ogden and a pair on Calf Hey,

Buzzard, 1 over Calf Hey,

Sparrowhawk, female went over conifers at Clough Head,

Peregrine, imm male at Calf Hey seen 5 times, once attacking a flock of Fieldfare,

Kestrel, 1 near Holden Wood,

Snipe, 1 flushed off Haslingden Moor,

Lapwing, at least 4 at Ogden probably more but tucked up in the rocks,

L.B.B.Gull, c8 west,

Herring Gull, at least 1 with the L.B.B.Gulls,

Wood Pigeon, c50 in small groups,

G.S.Woodpecker, 3 singles,

Meadow Pipit, c10 south,

Grey Wagtail. 1 at Holden Wood,

Pied Wagtail, c4,

Fieldfare, c100 in flocks to 25 generally heading north east,

Redwing, c300 in flocks to 40 either in conifers around Calf Hey or heading north east,

Mistle Thrush, 1,

L.T.Tit, c4 in mixed flock,

Coal Tit, c10 in several in mixed Tit flock at Calf Hey,

Treecreeper, at least 3 in Tit flock at Calf Hey,

Goldcrest, c20 inc many in mixed Tit flock at Calf Hey,

Jay, 4 singles,

Raven, pair high over Calf Hey,

Goldfinch, c40 at Heap Clough,

Bullfinch, calling at Holden Wood and Calf Hey.
