Here is a message about the new Lancashire Bird Atlas from County Recorder, Steve White:

"The results of the 2007-2011 bird atlas surveys of Lancashire and North Merseyside have now been published online.

Go the birds page of the Lancashire & Cheshire Fauna Society website www.lacfs.org.uk and download it for free.

We struggled hard to decide how best to publish this but decided in the end that it was more important to get the information disseminated as widely as possible rather than produce a more polished book (not to mention the £20+k that would have needed to be raised to produce a hardback!).

The format we ended up with meant that the maps are all different sizes. A bit irritating but you can always zoom onscreen to get a better view.

Many thanks to everyone involved in carrying out the surveys and producing this 'book'.

One advantage of online publication is that it is possible to update or correct the text. Please let me know if you spot any howlers.

We're also intending to do some more detailed analysis of the results over the next year. These will be published in the annual bird report and also made available on the website."

Can I echo Steve's thanks to all those users of this Forum who helped in the fieldwork
.
