Grane   10am-12.30pm

 

Holden Wood:-

 

House Sparrows, Chaffinches, Robins and a Pied Wagtail just opposite the Holden Arms

Reed Bunting on path before res,  a dozen or so Starlings flying over

long tailed tits in bushes before start of reservoir

a massive 126 minimum Mallard..... at least 60% were drakes......a sight record for me

31 Teal....another sight record for me......they flew off to the north

2 lapwing min on shoreline

double figures pf B H Gulls, Carrion crows and Jackdaws

Reed Bunting near top end, a few meadow pipits and a pied wagtail , 2 Wrens in rushes

1 Grey Heron

4 cormorants in roost

1 Green Woodpecker at top end which flew east then back over the reservoir to the western side

 

Ogden:-

5-6 mallards min

2 cormorants, 1 wren on side

a few meadow pipits

 

Calf Hey:-

plenty of teal......was too soggy to count

2 wrens on side

8 min mallard

 

Holden wood:-

1 big common gull

120 min lapwing which fed in the field with the jackdaws, gulls,

1 raven got to the reservoir and turned back

then a haunting whistling sound.....which has been id'd as a golden plover....flew to the lapwings in the air......but 2-3  of them flew at it...bird of the day for sure!

8 more teal....separate birds to the one seen earlier as they did not fly back 

only 1 thrush seen a male blackbird at the end  alarm calling...
