Spring must definitely be on its way. The first avocet of the year has arrived! This is almost the same day that the first ones arrived last year. In 2013, two avocets turned up on the saltmarsh on 17 February, which was the earliest we have ever had them return here. This year, just a couple of days later, we have only the one so far, though more will no doubt arrive over the next few weeks. Last year we had 30 pairs of avocets which was fantastic. Fingers crossed there are even more this year.
