G.C.Grebe, pair on Clowbridge,

Mallard, c12,

Pheasant, c8 calling birds,

Common Sandpiper, 1 on Clough Bottom Res,

Lapwing, 1 over Clough Bottom, pair on Swallow Shore & a pair at Greenfold,

Oystercatcher, 1 flew over Clowbridge then off to the east,

Whimbrel, two at Clowbridge flew from the south to north bank then fed at the side of the res. Later flew onto pasture towards Nutshaw,

Curlew, pair to south of Clowbridge and calling birds at Clough Bottom,

Little Owl, 1 on fence post near Swallow Shore,

Skylark, c20 with many in song,

Swallow, 2 at Clough Bottom, c6 on Swallow Shore and c6 at Clowbridge,

Sand Martin, 1 at Clough Bottom Res,

Meadow Pipit, c60,

Pied Wagtail, c6,

Grey Wagtail, singles at Clowbridge & Clough Bottom,

Wheatear, c12 with 2 on Swallow Shore & 3 at Greenfold,

Song Thrush, singing birds at Clowbridge & Clough Bottom,

Willow Warbler, c20,

Grasshopper Warbler, 1 "reeling" at top end of Clowbridge,

Whitethroat, 1 singing from clearfell area at Clough Bottom Res,

Rook, c12 near Peers Clough,

Starling, 2 at Clowbridge and c12 on pasture at Peers Clough,

Lesser Redpoll, 2 over singing at Clowbridge and c6 singing / chasing around at Clough Bottom,

Goldfinch, c6,

Chaffinch, c30, many in song,

Reed Bunting, 2 singing at Clowbridge,

Whimbrel nice find, R.S.P.B have it down as red status

Rare to the valley do you think ?

Hi Craggy,

Yes, the Whimbrel were good and haven't seen too many in Rossendale before but we do get them on passage as they head to their breeding grounds in northern Scotland.
