Yesterday and today warm sunny max 20 degrees.

After the heavy rain of last weekend the river was very high until around Wednesday but there has been no visble damage to river side nests, sadly the rain did wash out one of the Long-tailed Tit nests with the loss of a brood.

The four common Tit species are all doing well, except for the above, the other Long-tailed Tit sites have all produced young.

Bullfinch and Chaffinch have good numbers with young seen in several nest sites, we have two Goldfinch nests feeding young.

Robin, Wren and Blackbird have all got fledged young being fed, good Song Thrush activity at least four nest sites, no young seen, one Mistle Thrush nest is all I could find and not many individuals seen.

Treecreeper and Nuthatch numbers are good, one pair of the latter has used an old Woodpecker site in my back garden and have been putting on a show for the camera [see attached].

Several Great Spotted Woodpeckers are nesting and feeding young, one pair of Magpie are feeding young at the nest.

All the corvids appear to be doing well and it seems we have now got nesting Starlings which have been a rarity in the past.

Mallards have lots of ducklings on the river, and one pair of Canada Geese have three young, two pair of Dipper have produce three/four young which despite the high water seem to have survived, one pair of Grey Wagtail are feeding young in the nest [see attached].

The Sand Martin colony is increasing each day, some are on eggs and others are just starting to dig new sites, there were around 14 nests today, the Kingfishers are very active.

Some Swallows have started to nest in the local stables.

There are two active Green Woodpecker nest sites, difficult to tell whether they are feeding young or not.

Blackcaps and Willow warblers are here in good numbers, the Wood Warbler Ian found seems to have moved on and no Garden Warbler or Spotted Flycatcher have appeared yet.
