Grizzled Skipper?

Only because I saw a Photo in The RSPB recent magazine, but twice this week once in my garden in The Glen and again when walking on Meadowhead, I've seen a butterfly that very much resembled the photo, is it possible in this area or am I more likely wrong.

I hope your right and I am wrong, it is unlikely it was a Grizzled Skipper we are just a bit to far north for this species. Is it possible it was a Speckled Wood.

Regards Brian.

Hi Antony

it is unlikely that you saw a grizzled skipper.  It is more likely it was a mother shipton moth or a latticed heath moth.  I don't know much about moths, but the latticed heath appears to be quite common locally,  There are probably one or two other species that look similar in the field as well

cheers Kevin

Thanks for the replies gentlemen, I've looked up the likely candidates and come to the conclusion they were latticed heath, so much to learn but the help from posters is very much appreciated, thanks.
