9.30-12.30

 

Holden Wood:-

 

1 willow warbler in song at dam end

3 grey wagtails at dam end....at least 2 were juv

2 grey herons

7 mallard

2 common sandpiper

1 lrp - adult

2 lapwing on the mud on the north side.....behaving as if they had young

1 willow warbler at top end

 

Ogden:-

blue tits also in ferns

wren in ferns between holden wood and ogden

a poss common sandpiper called but not seen

wheatear on middle path on ruin......must have been a migrant..it flew off northwards....

 

Calf hey:-

1 common gull on res

2 stonechat in ferns on west side look like moulting

1 whitethroat still there.....

wren family at north end

5-7 mallard

a few black headed gulls

3  buzzards....

 

Ogden side:-

on way back

1 cormorant over circling

4 min kestrels  .......sparring with carrion crows and magpies

buzzard but prob one of the three from calf hey

2 ravens

2 corvids flying north west quite high....

2 lesser black backs circling side

 

Holden Wood:-

min  4 stonechat ...adult male and juvs seen

2 grey partridge disturbed in area  between the white stone path to the farm and the big black plastic pipe   - felt like a repeat of last year when I had a covey of  13 on the path to Ogden......first of the year for me and nice to get it in Rossendale!

 

min 40 lapwing and  40 starlings disturbed by something but no  BOP seen

1 grey wagtail at top end

5 cormorant -  2  in roost,  3 flew in

1 common sandpiper at  south end

2 pied wagtails

 

as for common birds.....not many woodpigeons and even numbers of black headed gulls were down ......a few meadow pipit.....couple of robin in song......................
