Lots of Meadow Pipits moving through the valley, along with lots of machinery working on Middle Hill. The hope of another Whinchat did not go to plan, but my dog flushed a Snipe! Then the bird of the day showed for about 30 seconds a Merlin dashing around and scattering more pipits. A Spotted Flycatcher was seen at the rear of the church near the Red Lion in the square in Whitworth. 4 Swallows heading south were my only hirundines.
