The G.W. Egret flew in at just turned 09:00 from the west and looked like it was going to land on Ogden until the Lapwings chased it off and then it must have dropped onto Holden Wood. It was still present at 11:00 being watched by KL, SH & NB when I left.
Good photos! Photos should go to the Free Press! Might generate interest in local birds (feathered variety) a little! Big thanks to David for letting every one know. The Grey Herons looked really baffled. Hopefully the Egret stands it's ground! Thanks to Ian and Kevin for telling me. What is left Glossy Ibis? Black Winged Stilts? Cattle Egret?

A fisherman told me it was on Ogden then flew onto Holden Wood about 9am. The egret came within 20 metres of where he was fishing in the widest point if the rest. It flew up to top end not sure because of me but then it settled. I worked my way up very slowly at first it was very wary of me but then a Heron came to try to move it. I did get closer almost to the bank but it appeared relaxed and prob more concerned about the Heron. The Heron flew off and the egret fished in peace. The Egret appears to be more worried about the Heron which worries more about humans. The Egret will relax around you and get very close, for a bird that size and generally very wary, if you don't rush, make noise or try to harass it. It caught 3 fish and often jumped in the air to catch something I assume dragonflies. I am sure this was reported in the recent Foulridge bird.
Still there at 4.00pm this afternoon initially in a field on the far bank opposite the wooden walkway then flew to the waters edge. Thanks David an impressive bird.
It is a Pike. I had a heart attack when I saw it as I thought it was a corpse of the Great Egret. Some things did not fit ie the neck and in one photo it looks grey and spotty.
