Hi Pete

I was up at Sow Clough and Huttock Top this morning and can add the following

  • sparrowhawk - 2
  • skylark - 4
  • woodpigeon - 22
  • meadow pipit - c30
  • pied wagtail - 1
  • rook - 6
  • goldcrest - party calling from conifers at Bacup Golf Club
  • twite - flock of 17
  • linnet - c50
  • goldfinch - c20
  • redpoll - 2 at Bacup Golf Club
  • bullfinch - calling at Bacup Golf Club
  • reed bunting 1 calling at Bacup Golf Club

I walked up to Whitworth Quarry after that and saw the following

  • Canada goose - 7 at New Line Res
  • mallard 32 - at New Line Res
  • teal - 5 at Whitworth Quarry
  • moorhen - 6 at New Line Res
  • kestrel - 1 mobbed by a carrion crow over New Line Res
  • snipe - 2 near Whitworth Quarry
  • skylark - 5 near Whitworth Quarry
  • meadow pipit 40 at Whitworth Quarry
  • house martin - at least 2 nests on the new houses near Lancashire Sock, New Line.
  • chiffchaff - 1 at New Line Res
  • stonechat - 3 on the hillside off Deansgreave Road, New Line (never seen them here before. I assume these are migrants rather than local breeding)
  • goldfinch - 11 in Whitworth Quarry
  • house sparrow - 60 on Cobden Street, New Line
  • reed bunting - 1 off Deansgreave Road and 1 near Whitworth Quarry

cheers Kevin
