Sunday October 11th 2014 Visible Bird Migration - Burton In Kendal, Cumbria (Russell Farm) from 0730hrs to 1000hrs. All movement South unless specified. The morning starting with a thick mist to all the low valley areas, leaving the higher areas clear, but this changed within about 30 mins and the mist then spread to the higher points, but quickly receded back into the low areas where it has remained to a lesser degree. Also the Wind which was 5mph SSW decreased rapidly to 1mph. All in all the birds just did not want to know and did not get going, other than some trickles which to be honest looked as though they were not that interested and behaved quite casual chasing one another and landing in trees and all that sort of thing!
Hi Bryan,
Pea souper till 10 here today. Just 1 Redwing heard. Lots of R Bunts tho. What are the names of the watches in holland where they see big numbers of thrushes before we get them ?
Craig.
I had a couple of hundred this morning but Dave Barker over in Oxenhope has had thousands which he said were coming through NW at cloudbase altitude. Never got on them.
Just been out at 1700 and there is at least a couple of hundred dropped into Hutton Roof for roost. Tomorrow should be superb so get them nets and tapes ready.
Dont bother with them Holland lads to be honest with you when they show loads, you dont get them they always seem to go down through Europe rather than cross over. The info with radar Hans is OK if he comes through with it that is.
