Canada goose - 26 at Ogden
teal - 5 at Holden Wood & 8 at Calf Hey
mallard - 7 at Calf Hey, 5 at Troy Quarry and 14 at Holden Wood
pheasant - 1m at Holden Wood
cormorant - 4 at Holden Wood and 2 at Ogden at 10am then 14 in the roost at Holden Wood at 3:45 pm
grey heron - 1 at Holden Wood and 1 at Ogden
kestrel - birds at all 3 reservoirs and also at Jamestones Quarry and Heap Clough
WATER RAIL
-1 calling at Holden Wood
moorhen - 1 at Holden Wood and 1 at Troy Quarry
coot - 1 at Holden Wood
golden plover - 33 on Haslingden Moor
snipe - just 1 at Holden Wood
black headed gull - 14 at Holden wood, 41 at Ogden and 18 at Calf Hey
common gull - 1 at Holden Wood and 1 at Ogden
woodpigeon - c200 at Calf Hey
green woodpecker - 1 at Ogden, 1 at Jamestones Quarry and 1 at Heap Clough
great spotted woodpecker - 1 at Ogden, 1 at Calf Hey and 2 at Troy
magpie - flock of 10 at Holden Wood, 4 at Ogden and 1 or 2 elsewhere
jay - 1 at Heap Clough
jackdaw - 6 at Holden Wood
rook - 1 over Calf Hey and 2 + 1 flying over Heap Clough, probably only the second time I've recorded rooks at Grane
carrion crow - 2 to 4 at each reservoir
raven - heard near Troy
goldcrest - at least 3 in 2 mixed species flocks at Calf Hey and a minimum of 12 at Troy Quarry
blue tit - flocks of 10 at Calf Hey and 13 at Clough Head
great tit - small numbers in mixed flocks at Calf Hey and Clough Head
coal tit - small numbers in mixed flocks at Calf Hey, Clough Head and Troy
long tailed tit - 6 near the Holden Arms
treecreeper - 1 at Calf Hey and 1 at Heap Clough
wren - 3 at Holden Wood, 3 at Ogden, 5 at Calf Hey, 1 on the dry stone wall on the edge of Haslingden Moor and 1 at Troy Quarry
starling - min 13 at Holden Wood
blackbird - just 1 at Holden Wood and 3 at Calf Hey
fieldfare - flocks of 18 and 12 at Heap Clough
song thrush - 2 at Calf Hey
redwing - flock of 18 at Holden Wood
mistle thrush - singing bird at Calf Hey
robin - 4 at Holden Wood and 4 at Calf Hey
stonechat - 1m at Ogden
dunnock - just 1 at Calf Hey
grey wagtail - 1 at Holden Wood and 1 at Ogden
meadow pipit - 2 at Holden Wood and 2 at Ogden
chaffinch - min 10 in mixed species flock at Calf Hey and c12 at Troy
brambling - min 12 in mixed species flock at Calf Hey
goldfinch - 10 at Heap Clough and 26 at Holden Wood
siskin - flock of 6 at Heap Clough

I wonder if Water Rail has been recorded at Holden Wood before?

Hi
Never heard or seen Water Rail there before myself.
Went for a look today from 10am-11am on Grey Friday and 1 coot, 1 moorhen, 2 teal.
No sound let alone sight of a Water Rail sadly.
