Hi Russ

What time were you there ? I was there from 9.00-12.30 today.

Just wanted to add :-

Holden Wood:-

11 lapwing
1 grey heron
a couple of meadow pipit
6 teal
2 mallard
2 wren
2 cormorants
2 snipe
2 reed buntings - both females
1 coot

Ogden:-

6 teal on
3-4 mallard
5-6 fieldfare in hawthorns on slope

Calf hey:-

2 mistle thrush
4-5 blackbirds in hawthorns
2 kestrel - male and fem, male had prey eating it on a small tree but pesky b h gulls tried to rob him but luckily did not succeed!
mixed flock consisting of coal tit, blue tit, great tit, treecreeper - 4 min seen in woods, goldcrest
3-4 wren
1-2 Robins

2-3 brambling, 2-3 chaffinch
250 min woodpigeon

2 Jay
min of 3 siskin
bullfinch heard

min 0f 70 b h gulls
18-24 teal
11 mallard min

Ogden:-

on way back:-
2 common gull
7+ mallard
1 field fare in hawthorn close to path - looks odd seeing them alone
2 more fieldfare closer towards holden wood

2-3 wren

Holden wood:-

min of 2 stonechat maybe a 3rd as well
min of 15 meadow pipits - were not here before
60 lapwing approx. - they came in new
16 mallard min
1-2 Robins

min 30 black headed gulls

This cold snap has shaken things up a bit compared to my last visit see much more! Thrush activity appears to have increased and heading towards the berries. Waterfowl and Lapwing appear to have had a bit of a kick from nature. Both Robin and Wren in sub-song and I thought I heard a Mistle Thrush at one point.

I put up some feeders at the Ogden side of Holden Wood in the hawthorns near the hedge and on the wall. The suet pellets had all been eaten probably by Crows as I could see lots hanging about the area. Two coconut feeders appear to have been tucked into as well. Put some food at the edge of the Rossendale Way as you enter the woods as f walking from Ogden. Did not get much attention within the hour I was there - will check again tomorrow.

Hi Russ,

Superb morning indeed. I had a feeling you were there around the same time because the reflection in Ogden disappears after mid-morning. If you came and saw my feeders at Holden Wood then it means I was ahead of you. If there were no feeders there then I was behind. I did go in the woods at Calf Hey so maybe as you entered I was at the other side. It was hard to miss me - I don't hide very well. LOL
