Very windy, Mainly dry, between 4 - 6 degrees.

On a very challenging day, with strong winds and very wet underfoot, 7 people participated and split into 3 teams of 2x2 and 1x3.

The result was a grand total of 68 species which equaled last year's record total for a Winter Bird Race and was a great result under the difficult conditions. We had one new species in Red Legged Partridge, with a pair at Calf Hey, and one notable omission as no team saw a Rook!

The individual teams scored:

Team A (Kevin & Sarfraz)     = 56 species.

Team B (Ian & Craggy)         = 54 species.

Team C (Bob, Peter & David) = 49 species.

Highlights for the day were:

Teal, 4 on Calf Hey,

Tufted Duck, present on Cowm,

Goldeneye, male & 2 females on Ogden,

Sparrowhawk, female in Grane,

Peregrine, 1 over,

Red Legged Partridge, pair at Calf Hey,

Coot, 1 on Holden Wood Res,

Golden Plover, 23 on the tops at Haslingden,

Woodcock, 1 flew over I.B's car in Grane,

Snipe, Holden Wood Res,

G.B.B.Gull, 2 for the day,

Stock Dove, flocks of 6 in Alden & Broadclough,

Tawny Owl, 1 in Waterfoot,

Kingfisher at Strongstry,

Green Woodpecker, 1 at Spring Mill,

White Wagtail, 1 at Stubbins,

Stonechat, in Grane,

Nuthatch, sveral locations,

Treecreeper, 1 at Sunnybank,

Raven, 1 over Irwell Vale & 1 over Warth,

Brambling, present at Kearn's Mill, Cowpe,
