R.O.C. Summer Bird Race, 14th June 2015

It was a cool, sometimes drizzly, day but that didn't stop 7 members recording the equal highest number of sightings with a total of 80 species seen. We saw one new species today, Red Legged Partridge, and have now seen a total of 107 species since the summer bird race began in 1992. The results this year were:

Team A (KL & IB)            75 species.

Team B (RI, SH & DN)     69 Species.

Team C (JH & PF)            65 Species.

The highlights for the day were:

Mute Swan,

Tufted Duck on Holden Wood,

Red Legged Partridge, Grane,

Little Grebe, pair nesting,

G.C.Grebe, c8 in Grane,

Sparrowhawk, c4,

Buzzard, 5 different birds,

Coot, 4 on Holden Wood,

Snipe, drumming bird in Grane,

Kingfisher, just 1,

Green Woodpecker, 1 at Spring Mill,

Raven several sightings,

Wood Warbler, 1 singing at Healey Dell,

Whitethroat, c6 different birds singing,

Grasshopper Warbler, 1 reeling at Landgate,

Nuthatch, may, still in good song,

Treecreeper, several in Grane,

Spotted Flycatcher, 1 at Sunnybank,

Stonechat,

Siskin, 4 in Grane,

Redpoll, 2 in Duckworth Clough,

Bullfinch, male in Grane,

Reed Bunting, several.
