12:00 - 18:00hrs,

2 House Martins taking food to nest at rear of Queens St Rawtenstall

Balladen -

1 Bullfinch calling

1 Swallow + 1 at Lomas lane

1 Willow Warbler in song + Chaffinch, Wood Pigeon, Grt Tit, Pied Wagtail

Hawks Clough -

1 Redpoll

1pr + 1m Linnet

1 Reed Bunting singing

2 Willow Warbler

1 Blackbird

1 Buzzard overhead

Sand Beds

Flock of c40 Starling

1 Snipe chipping then drumming

Pr Curlew very demonstrative as if young were nearby - the only birds of this species heard or seen throughout.

12 Lapwing inc. 4 juvs + usual decent numbers of Skylarks and M.Pipits.

Foe Edge -

1m Wheatear + 2m & 1pr at Scout moor res.

7 Canada goose + 1pr with 2yng at Scout Moor res

2 seperate Golden Plover on Cowpe Moss but no sign of any Dunlin. The moor is very dry with  no standing water.

Party of 7 Raven

1 Reed Bunting in song

1 Wren in song

Pr Grey Wagtail in outflow of reservoir

1 Blackcap singing from lower section

this walk just gets longer as the years go by!

Interested in your report. I was on Cowpe Moss a couple of weeks ago and saw no sign of Golden Plover. I wonder if yours are non-breeders just visiting? I suppose only additional visits would answer that. At that time the moor was quite wet, so it must have dried quickly.

I can confirm that the walk to the moor has lengthened from the Norden side as well in the last 40 years. Thought perhaps the draft from the wind farm was holding me back.
