  • small skipper - c20 near Spring Mill Res, 4 on the old railway line at Britannia & 3 at Dark Lane
  • large skipper - c40 near Spring Mill Res, 6 in Healey Dell, 15 on the old railway line at Britannia & 12 at Dark Lane
  • speckled wood - c10 near Spring Mill Res, 5 in Healey Dell, 4 on the old railway line at Britannia & 1 at Hugh Mill, Waterfoot 
  • meadow brown - 6 at Landgate, c50 near Spring Mill Res, 5 in Healey Dell, 10 on the old railway line at Britannia & 10 at Dark Lane
  • ringlet - c100 near Spring Mill Res, 1 in Healey Dell, 2 on the old railway line at Britannia & 10 at Dark Lane
  • small white - 2 on the old railway line at Britannia
  • small tortoiseshell -c40 caterpillars near Spring Mill Res, 1 at Spring Mill Res & 2 on the old railway line at Britannia
  • cinnabar moth - 2 very fresh looking individuals at Dark Lane

Do you really mean 100 Ringlet.
I think I have only seen the odd one.

Hi Ian

Yes, I do mean 100.  Ringlet numbers have increased hugely in Lancashire in recent years.  If you follow this link http://www.lancashire-butterflies.org.uk/Recording_Report_2014.pdf it should show the Lancashire butterfly report for last year, which will show that the 100 John and I saw is small fry compared to some sites.  if the link doesn't work just search for Butterfly Conservation Lancashire Branch and click on the annual reports tab
