Spotted Flycatcher.

From 20th July until today varied cloud cover, sunny spells, 14/20 degrees. Short periods of aerial insect activity.

It appears our only pair (that I can find here) of Spotted Flycatchers are very resilient, if I assume that this is the same pair, they arrived on the 11th of May and had adopted my nest box, built a nest and abandoned the site by mid June. I think the reason for the above was poor weather and lack of flying insects.

On the 29th of June the pair were still in the area and singing, but no signs of nesting, on the 20th of July I returned from France to find a sitting female back in the same nest box being fed by the Male which is still struggling to find airborne insects.

Her behaviour says she is on eggs, when these were laid I have no idea, incubation is around 12/15 days, young will fledge in 12/15 Days, if they are blessed with some warm weather we could have fledged young by mid to late August, those young have then got to fatten up for a long migration to west Africa, I wish them luck.

Will keep you posted, Brian.
