A nice showy "moulting" 1st summer/ 2nd winter Ring Billed Gull has been present for a few days at Preston Docks. Showed well today along with a juv Yellow-legged Gull.

A good place to visit at the moment with the numerous breeding Common Terns on the wave breakers, lots having large, almost fledged young.

I popped up to see this last week and when I got there it had apparently flown off over Homebase.  We waited, waited and waited.   We waited for 3 1/2 hours before some one came up to us and said it is there on the 8th pontoon.  It must have landed without any one noticing it.  I was on my last 10 minutes so I was glad it was spotted.  I met a twitcher from Doncaster who I last met at the Baikal Teal twitch in December 2013.  He would twitch by train.  My second lifer in a space of 7 days.  My last 3 British lifers have all been Gulls - Laughing, Sabine's and now this Ring Billed.
